PTHC Second Saturday Hunt

Every second Saturday of every month except July, club members meet at Denny's at 128th and I-5 at Everett, WA. Meet about 8AM (a little earlier is ok). There, we talk about treasure, detecting, gear, all kinds of other topics, have a little breakfast, and choose a place to hunt. The club's Hunt Chairman determines six items to find that compile the Items-to-Find List.

  • 1 golden dollar for each item found

Second Saturday: February 08, 2020

After the morning breakfast at Denny’s, 12 PTHC members relished the break from the intense rains of the past couple weeks and headed south to the Woodland Park Lawn Bowling Area at Seattle's Greenlake. The Items-to-Find List included:

  • jewelry

  • token

  • bullet or case

  • foreign coin

  • writing implement

  • makeup case

At noon, the members met at Dave's car to compare finds and select the envy of all in attendance, the Find of the Day. The winner was and 1890 Indian Head Cent

found by Kari D.

Each of the participants will receive 2 golden dollars at the March meeting; that's just for showing up. Those that found items from the list will win a prize for each item found.

March's Second Saturday Hunt takes place on Saturday, March 14th, 2020. Join us at the Denny’s at 128th and I-5 just before 8am.

Second Saturday: January 11, 2020

After the morning breakfast at Denny’s, 13 PTHC members left enormous tips (of all clad), then braved the rain and heavy traffic to Volunteer Park at Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. The Items-to-Find List included:

  • foreign coin

  • toy

  • jewelry

  • battery

  • 3 state quarters

  • token

By the time we reached the park, the rain had mostly subsided. We did endure a couple of scattered showers. After 3 hours of hunting, the members met at Dave's car and selected the coveted Find of the Day. The winner was David L.'s silver ring (see right).

Each of the participants will receive 2 golden dollars at the February meeting - just for coming out to metal detect in the fresh air. Those that found items from the list also win a prize for each item found. One hunter got skunked this month, and three did not report their finds.

February's Second Saturday Hunt takes place on Saturday, February 8th, 2020. Join us at the Denny’s at 128th and I-5 just before 8am.

Second Saturday: December 14, 2019

After the morning breakfast at Denny’s, 13 PTHC members wove in and out of traffic at high speeds to the oft-hunted and lush fields of Greenlake Park at Seattle, WA. The Items-to-Find List included:

  • dog jewelry

  • foreign coin

  • clothing attachment

  • hair item

  • colored pull tab

  • toy

After hunting and being spared any significant rain, we all met at noon at the designated meeting point to compare finds and determine the Find of the Day. No struggle this month as the clear winner was Randy R.’s find of a 1919 Wheatie.

Each of the participants received 2 golden dollars at the December meeting - just for coming out to metal detect in the fresh air. Those that found items from the list also won a prize for each item found. 3 hunters got skunked this month.

January’s Second Saturday hunt takes place on Saturday, January 11th. Join us at the Denny’s at 128th and I-5 just before 8am.

Second Saturday: November 9, 2019

17 hunters came out today and hunted Laurelhurst Park at Seattle. The Items-to-Find List included:

  • jewelry

  • foreign coin

  • clothing attachment

  • new nickel

  • dog jewelry

  • make-up case

Most of the participants found something on the list. 3 members got skunked and 1 member left before reporting his finds.

Today brought anticipation as scientific data will be needed to determine the Find of the Day. Kari D. and Dave A. each found a gold ring and President Label needs to test which one has a higher value. As you know, the Second Saturday participants vote on which item found is the Find of the Day, and voting was split between these two top-pocket finds.

Update: it was revealed at the November monthly meeting that Kari D.'s ring is in fact gold and it won the Find of the Day.

Second Saturday: October 9, 2019

After the morning breakfast at Denny's, 15 PTHC members drove to Hamlin Park at Shoreline, WA. The Items-to-Find List included:

  • foreign coin

  • clothing attachment

  • dog jewelry

  • jewelry

  • sport item

  • house item

No one member found them all. Most found at least one; two members got skunked.

At noon, we all met at the designated meeting point and determined that John Q.'s 1952 Half Dollar earned the Find of the Day (similar to the image at right). At the October meeting a few days later, John Q. received a silver quarter as a prize for the find.
